Amanda Shaw - Software Developer Apprentice

Amanda joined our team in 2020 as a software developer apprentice. She took a web design course (HTML, CSS) at Chattanooga State, but most of her coding skills are self-taught. Since joining our team she continually surprises us with her ability to grasp new coding environments and her knack for aesthetics and user experience.

What got you interested in Software Development? When I was a teenager, I wanted to learn how to make games, but drag-and-drop software was too limiting. So I started learning how to code so I could create whatever I imagined. I love learning spoken languages and writing, so coding fits in with those interests. Also, I don't consider myself a good artist, but through coding, I can draw and design with words. That's why I especially love building websites.

Where are you from? I was born in Chattanooga and have lived here all my life. I like living near the mountains. Also, I like that Chattanooga isn't a huge city, yet there's still a lot to do. I love the Hamilton Place area most of all.

What are your hobbies? Blogging, creative writing, 3D modeling, watching anime, watching game shows/trivia shows, learning languages
